Here are the statistics for the use of CMS View and VM Gopher services in
February.  CMS View is available only to CMS users - either using their
own userid or by logging on to one of the anonymous View userids.  The VM
Gopher is the primary campus server (gopher.uky.edu) and is available to
CMS users and anyone with a workstation with campus ethernet access and
Gopher or Mosaic client software. (We have client software for Macintosh,
Windows, and some Unix systems.) Our Gopher server is also available
world-wide through the Internet and provides a convenient path to other
servers by campus users.
 
The transaction counts are counts of menu picks - when someone picks an
item from a View or Gopher menu that is one transaction.  A transaction
could lead to a document, a search, or another menu.  Some of the
information distributed by View and Gopher is also available directly
from our Web server and these transactions are not counted here.  The Web
traffic is still relatively small.
 
Both View and Gopher use continue to grow, with Gopher growing faster.
The fastest growing segment is access from campus workstations.

The servers are used 24 hours each day from all over the world, but most
use is from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm, with a concentration from 1:00 pm
until 5:00 pm.
