The vital records index data was obtained from the Kentucky Office of Vital Statistics in 1994 for a research project. We do not have the resources or funding to update the records.
This file contains an index to divorces which have been granted in Kentucky from 1 January 1973 to 31 December 1993. Information in the file includes the names of the husband and wife, their ages and residences, and the place and date of the divorce. The original file was produced by the Kentucky Department of Health Statistics and is the official data used to generate, among other things, the annual Kentucky Vital Statistics Report.
There are numerous misspellings of names in the data and many long given names have been abbreviated or truncated. The wife's surname is usually, but not always, her maiden name. Some records are missing and some are duplicated. We cannot make changes to the data.
The index data is available using a web browser. It can also be accessed using Ph client software. You can use Ph client software by connecting to ukcc.uky.edu at port 9108. No other access to this data is possible -- no FTP, nothing. Please don't ask.
The records are indexed for searching by given name and surname only. The default search a search on the Name field uses an index of the husband's and wife's surnames, making it easy to locate a record when both parties names are known. (This will not work when both are listed with the same surname.) It is also possible to search by the full name of either the Husband or Wife, using those field names. Append an asterisk to a name to get extended searching of spelling variations. The details of making queries will depend on the computer, software, and network you are using. Contact your local support people if you need assistance.
It is not possible at this time to restrict a search by specifying multiple fields in a single search. To reduce the impact of this service on our system, the number of responses returned after a search is limited.
