PASSWORD SCAM WARNING There have been recent reports of users receiving phone calls at home or in their offices from someone implying they are testing system security or problems. As with credit card scams, the caller asks for your userid and password "to help test a problem" with the system. Please be aware that there is no reason to give out your password to anyone - either over the phone or by e-mail or at any time other than when you login. Your userid is public information, but your password is the key to the vault. Please keep it confidential. Computer personnel do not need to know your password. One possible smooth exit from such a call is to ask the caller for their name and phone number so you can call them back. Please report all such calls to the UKCC Security Officer, Jack Coffman at 257-2273 immediately.
